Shifts available (average hours per week):
• 19.5 hours per week
• 20.25 hours per week
• 21 hours per week
• 22.25 hours per week
• 22.75 hours per week
Working over a 2 week rota – shifts range from 7.30am – 9.30pm, including every other weekend and may include bank holiday working.

The Service
Part of the Milton Village scheme which comprises of 65 extra care flats, Shearwater is a brand new purpose built 60 bed residential home opening in August 2009 for adults with dementia.
Our philosophy across the scheme is to encourage independence and although we recognise severe dementia may require residential care, the new home is run in small units of ten and we encourage activity based care.
What is the role?
Using a person centred approach you will look after the physical, emotional, cultural and social needs of service users. This will include personal care, assisting clients at meal times and all aspects of daily living. You will also help with social activities and enable clients to participate. You will be a key worker to specific clients, taking responsibility for keeping their care plans up to date and for ensuring their individual needs are met. You will also look after the needs of a diverse group of service users with a wide range of care needs and this will include some moving and handling duties. There will be the need for light food preparation.
Who is the person?
You need to:
1. Have patience and empathy, with an understanding of the needs of older people.
2. Have experience in a caring role working with people with dementia.
3. Have the ability to understand the needs of people with dementia.
4. Be flexible and adaptable, and able to work in a team and on your own initiative.
5. Have an understanding of the cultural and linguistic needs of people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
6. Have good communication skills to write legible records and interact well with clients, relatives, the team, and other professionals.
7. Be willing to take part in training and development and to study for NVQ 2/3 in Care.
8. Be able to deal with emergencies in a calm manner.
9. Have an understanding of client confidentiality and Data Protection.
