What is the role?
You will be managing and overseeing service delivery and contribute significantly towards service development. You will also undertake complex assessment, treatment and support of clients, and evaluate outcomes in order to maximise independence, whilst supporting staff to achieve similar levels of excellence in service delivery. You will contribute to the development and implementation of new policy and practice in Occupational Therapy and provide expert policy and practice advice. You will work primarily with disabled people and their carers in their own homes, assessing complex needs and implementing agreed action plans to facilitate choice and control in their lives and enable participation in the life of the community. This role will involve:
· Undertaking complex assessments, planning and making decisions in unpredictable situations.
· Screening and prioritising referrals based on service criteria and principles of risk management, and assisting with screening and allocating cases.
· Recommending and providing complex specialised equipment, and giving guidance to clients, staff and carers in it's use.
· Liaising with other professionals and colleagues in statutory and non-statutory agencies i.e. housing, social care and health agencies to support close multi disciplinary working.
· Providing expert support and advice to clients and their families/carers in their adjustment to disability and long-term conditions.
· Overseeing a caseload of the most complex cases and sometimes deputising for the Team Manager.
· Maintaining comprehensive and timely client records and contributing to methods of effectively auditing service interventions and outcomes.
· Undertaking professional supervision of staff and cases, providing expert policy and guidance, including Higher Grade Occupational Therapists in accordance with the requirements of the College of Occupational Therapists.
· Leading in the clinical education and training of other members of the team.
· Actively initiating and supporting service development and identifying trends and shortfalls in service delivery.
· Monitoring performance.
· Carrying out inductions for new staff, and dealing with any complaints, and chairing meetings, conferences and team discussions.
Who is the person?
You need to have:
1. Diploma of the College of Occupational Therapists or BSc Occupational Therapy, OR any Occupational Therapy qualification recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (necessary now for Europe) or similar body.
2. Registration with the Health Professions Council.
3. Relevant experience of working in a health and/or community based setting.
4. Extensive experience of complex caseload management.
5. Experience of staff supervision/development.
6. Knowledge of implications of Putting People First/ Personalisation agenda.
7. In-depth knowledge of conditions affecting adults and of relevant legislation relating to adults with disabilities.
8. Experience of complex manual handling and evidence of updating knowledge in this area.
9. Evidence of project work/ service development.
10. Evidence of supporting managers in managing attendance and staff conduct.
11. The ability to communicate with people at all levels in a professional and confident manner.
12. The ability to formulate functional assessment of complex need and devise action plans and support this in others.
13. Evidence of the ability to undertake practical problem solving.
14. Evidence of maintaining up-to-date knowledge.
15. The ability to be creative and solution-focused and promote this in others.
16. Evidence of networking/ inter-agency and multi-disciplinary working.
17. Knowledge and experience of undertaking complex environmental adaptations in accordance with legislation.
18. Knowledge of the Social Model of Disability and commitment to the development of services using this model.
