The Service
Portsmouth City Council Housing Service manages over 17,000 council owned and leasehold properties in Portsmouth and Havant making it the largest social landlord in that area. This includes repairs and maintenance, rent collection, ground maintenance and cleaning, tenancy support and tackling anti social behaviour. These services are managed locally by staff based at seven area Housing Offices and we pride ourselves on being able to develop and design services that meet customer purpose. The Housing Service adopts a 'Systems Thinking' approach to the work with our staff focusing on getting our work systems right, enabling us to deliver what customers need from our services, when they need it.
What is the role?
Based at a designated Area Housing Office, you will be working in a challenging front-line service as part of a team of housing officers responsible for both the management of rental income and tenancy management issues such as tackling anti-social behaviour. Managing approximately 700 properties you will need to be able to listen to the needs of the customer, providing support and help where appropriate, and meet the clearly defined purposes of the various services. This is a varied and challenging role that involves dealing with a wide section of the local community and other external agencies such as the police as well as putting you in close contact with numerous departments within Portsmouth City Council itself such as social services so your ability to work in partnership with others will be paramount.
Who is the person?
You need to:
1. Have experience of working in a challenging front-line service within a social housing environment
2. Have excellent communication skills to enable you to effectively communicate at all levels from Tenants to Councillors.
3. Have experience of report writing as you will be required to write and prepare documentations that may be used as evidence in court
4. Be able to work independently and as part of a team
5 Be comfortable using a variety of IT systems
6. Be able to use your initiative and judgement in order to solve and resolve customer issues that arise.
7. Be flexible as you may be required to work from any of the 7 area housing offices and carry out occasional out of office hours working
8 Have a passion about the role, whist ensuring that you understand and deliver what the customer wants within our scope of service
9 Knowledge of Housing benefit to enable you to give advice and carry out manual calculations with Tenants.
10 Have a current driving licence and daily use of a vehicle, as you will be required to visit your housing patch.
