What is the role?
Reporting to the Adoption Manager, you will be responding to requests for post adoption & special guardianship support services and advice. You will undertake assessments of adoption & special guardianship support need, create a support plan for the need and monitor and review within current requirements. You will hold a caseload of service users & provide direct support and intervention to the families involved in the adoption & special guardianship process.
You will liaise with other agencies to develop appropriate levels of post adoption and special guardianship support and build up a resource directory of other services/supports for the children and families involved in the process. You will be expected to contribute to the knowledge base of the children’s service through team meeting/training events and to offer consultation & advice to other professionals as required.
You will also be responsible for assisting in the compilation of life story books for children and promote equal opportunity in all the services that are provided by the adoption team.
You may also be required to work occasional evenings and weekends to attend meetings both with professionals and families.
Who is the person?
You need to have:
• Experience of working with children and permanent substitute families.
• Experience of supporting parents with children who are experiencing difficulties.
• Experience of working with children with challenging behaviour.
• Experience of counselling would be an advantage.
• Knowledge of child development and attachment issues.
• An understanding of the Adoption & Children Act 2002.
• An understanding of the basic principles of adoption & special guardianship practice and procedures.
• An awareness of child protection issues.
• Good communication skills to include both report writing and presentation skills.
• A positive approach & commitment to the development of high quality adoption and special guardianship support services.
• A working knowledge of Microsoft office.
• An ability to manage your own workload and time in pressurised situations.
• An ability to work as an effective member of the team and support others when required.
