What is the job?
You will be part of the team at Fratton Community Centre, the community centre serving the Fratton neighbourhood. The centre is managed by a charitable body, Fratton Community Association, in partnership with Portsmouth City Council.
The Centre is open - Monday to Friday 9am to 10pm and Saturday and Sundays 9am to 6pm and shifts are worked over a two-week rota.
General Duties
• Security of premises, including security checks on opening or closing the centre.
• Responsibility for the centre when rota'd as duty staff member.
• Preparation of rooms for use by centre users as necessary.
• Reception duties including giving information, taking bookings, answering phone enquiries, taking messages and handling of cash.
• Assisting with publicity and presentation of the centre.
• Emergency cleaning if required.
• Supervision of trainees, students or CSO’s as required.
• Taking part in the call-out rota for alarm call-outs.
• Compliance with Health & Safety
• Attending staff meetings.
Specific Maintenance duties
You will ensure the records required for Health & Safety are kept up-to-date.
To carry out any maintenance tasks, participate in building refurbishment and development projects.
To work closely with the maintenance supervisor, in liaison with the Centre Manager.
Hours of work initially will be Fridays 10.30-3.30 pm alternate weeks and Saturdays 1.00-6.00pm alternate weeks.
Additional hours to cover staff absence through leave, training or sickness will be required. The post involves some evening and occasional weekend working.
Who are we looking for?
You need to:
Have experience of DIY and a range of maintenance skills
Have experience of general office procedures
Be a good communicator, verbally and in writing•
Have basic IT skills
Have some experience of working in the community
Be able to work on your own initiative
Be able to set up furniture for centre users when required
Have a commitment to equality of opportunity
Participate in training as required
Be available to meet rota requirements and call-out duties
