The Service
The Sensory Impairment Service comprises of Specialist Teacher Advisers, Communication Support Workers, interveners and a Paediatric Rehabilitation Officer for Visually Impaired pupils. We work with sensory impaired children and young people from 0-19 years of age, at home or other pre-school settings, in schools and colleges. Our aim is to maximise the educational opportunities for every individual child, working in partnership with parents and carers, teachers and colleagues in other agencies.
What is the role?
You will be supporting and giving advice as well as teaching on a one-to-one basis, children with a multi sensory impairment, and be working with the children in schools, pre-schools and in their own homes. You will work with parents/carers, educational professionals and other agencies to ensure pupils with a sensory impairment have the opportunity to become independent learners.
Who is the person?
You need to:
1. Have Qualified Teacher status.
2. Be qualified in multi sensory impairment or be willing to undertake training course leading to qualification in multi sensory impairment (if not already qualified)
3. Have recent successful experience as a teacher working with MSI and/or MDVI pupils.
4. Have up to date knowledge of equipment and technology appropriate for sensory impaired pupils.
5. Have the ability to assess and monitor individual pupil progress maintaining clear and accurate records of casework.
6. Have good written and oral communication skills as you will be liaising with people at all levels.
7. Have good ICT skills as you will be using various software packages with children.
8. Have a commitment to the delivery of high quality education designed to meet the specific needs of VI/MSI/MDVI pupils.
9. Have the ability to work with a large degree of autonomy within agreed boundaries whilst maintaining close links with Line Manager.
10. Have experience of record keeping.
11. Be able to work as part of a team to ensure a smooth delivery of the service and be flexible in being able to adapt to the changing needs of the team.
12. Have use of a car as you will be transporting resources to various settings
