What is the role?
This role provides an opportunity to work closely with provider services in Adult Social Care within Portsmouth City Council. The post holder will directly provide moving and handling of people training to managers and staff providing services to vulnerable adults in the City. This training must fulfil national minimum standards and guidance set by social care organisations including the General Social Care Council, Skills for Care and the Care Quality Commission.
The role will also involve an advisory capacity for Provider services (residential/respite, day care and our independent living service) to support person-centred approaches to moving and handling of people ensuring staff are able to maximise independence and maintain safety.
Who is the person?
You need to:
1. Be a qualified Social Care Practitioner, Nurse or have a relevant Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification at degree level.
2. Have experience of delivering Moving and Handling of People training to social care staff or be willing to undertake training to carry out this role.
3. Due to the physical nature of this role the post holder must be able to physically demonstrate safe moving and handling of people practice.
4. Have an in-depth knowledge of Adult Social Care with experience in a health or social care environment.
5. Have a working knowledge of the Skills for Care Common Induction Standards.
6. Have experience of the assessment of practice in health or social care environments e.g. NVQ’s.
7. Be an assertive person who is able to act upon their own initiative and able to work autonomously.
8. Be able to communicate confidently with a wide range of people encompassing differing levels of the business.
9. Be able to negotiate effectively with internal and external parties and be confident in challenging current thinking.
10. Have excellent presentation skills both verbal and written.
11. Be creative and innovative to design learning and development programmes that have currency and engage learners.
12. Be able to use Microsoft packages.
13. Have a reflective manner, confident in evaluating and monitoring the effectiveness of training programmes.
14. Be able to take on a coaching role in order to support people in their personal development.
15. Be able to apply adult learning theory in the design of training interventions.
