Working on a 2 week rota, earliest start 7.30am and latest finish 9.30pm, to incorporate alternate weekends and some bank holiday working.

The Service
Part of the Milton Village scheme which comprises of 65 extra care flats, Shearwater is a brand new purpose built 60 bed residential home which opened in August 2009 for adults with dementia.
Our philosophy across the scheme is to encourage independence and although we recognise severe dementia may require residential care, the new home is run in small units of ten and we encourage activity based care.
What is the role?
This is a newly developed role. You will lead a team of three care staff and two domestic assistants in the provision of a needs led service for adults with dementia. You will be responsible for one floor of the home, comprising two group living areas, totalling 20 residents. You will lead a shift to ensure staff are deployed where and when required for best service delivery. You will contribute to the promotion of independence through person centred care planning. Your role will involve some direct hands on care. You will be responsible for the development of allocated members of the domestic team, and liaising with social workers, health and other involved professionals. You will be responsible for monitoring and ordering of stores for the floor, co-ordinating with the admin assistants.
Who is the person?
You need to:
1. Have an NVQ 3 or 4 in Social Care.
2. Have a comprehensive understanding of equality and diversity.
3. Have substantial experience working in a residential setting with dementia clients.
4. Have supervisory skills, including shift planning, covering and training staff.
5. Have the ability to keep accurate and up-to-date records.
6. Have good verbal communication skills as you will be liaising with visiting professionals.
7. Have knowledge of IT systems, other assistive technology, and a willingness to learn.
8. Have experience of administering and the storage of medication.
9. Have the ability to demonstrate effective use of resources.
10. Have a calming nature to deal with emergency situations.
11. Have experience of negotiation and decision-making.
12. Have the ability to follow policy in accordance with quality standards.
