Health Housing and Social Care


The Directorate takes the lead role in delivering the Community Strategy
outcomes, helping people in need in Portsmouth to:

•   find somewhere to live.
•   access support to live in their homes safely.
•   live in fit accommodation and houses in good repair.
•   actively improve their health.
•   fulfil their potential to live independently.
•   have choice in accessing health and social care services.
•   be able to live safely in their own homes for as long as possible.
•   establish strong and supportive communities.

The Services within Health, Housing & Social Care include:

•   Local Authority Housing.
•   Community Housing.
•   Social Care for Adults & Older persons.
•   Resources & Planning (for social care).
•   Health Improvement & Development.

The type of projects and work you could be involved in include:

•   The Management of 17,000 council homes with varying needs and
     requirements in areas such as resident participation, anti-social behaviour,
     estate management and improvement, Sale of Council Homes, Sheltered
     Housing and Tenancy Support.
•   Housing Options (Managing housing needs, requests and allocations),
     housing standards, initiatives in developing housing solutions.
•   Service and care issues for older persons.
•   Residential, Home and Day care services.
•   Policy and commissioning of services from partners and external providers.
•   Health Improvement & Development incorporates, the integrated PCC &
     PCT Health Development Team, Foyer health development, Homecheck,
     Teenage Pregnancy and the Prevention Team.

Our role is to work together with the people of Portsmouth and other
directorates to improve health and quality of life.
